Materials:  W. Wt. Cotton Yarn, any colors you like; size H hook, one CD.

The Mat in the Green has a 2nd round of joining (edging).

Make Two

Chain 5, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1:  Ch 3, make 15 dc in ring, join with sl st in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch-3 (16)

Rnd 2:  Ch 4, (dc in the next dc, ch 1) around, join with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the

beginning ch-4.

Rnd 3:  Sl st into the 1st ch-1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in the same sp, make (3 dc in next ch-1 sp)

around, join with a sl st in the 3rd ch of beginning ch-3.

Rnd 4:  Ch 2, hdc in each dc around, join with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the

Beginning ch-3.

Rnd 5:  Ch 5, skip next dc,  (dc in the next dc, ch 2, skip next dc) around,

join with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch-5.  Finish off and weave in ends.

Make a second piece the same, then the joining.

JOINING:

Rnd 1:  Holding together the wrong sides of both pieces, and working

through both spaces, attach a contrasting (CC) color with a sl st in any ch-2

space.  Chain 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same space, ch 1, sc in next ch-2 sp,

ch 1.  Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp, ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 1)

around.  About ¾ the way around in joining, slip in the CD.  Finish around.

Join in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch-3.

You may end here as in the “Southwest” design, OR, add on Rnd 2 as in the

“Green” Hot Mat.  The Green version has an edging that sticks out more.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in same stitch as in joining, (sc in each sc, sp and dc) around,

Join to the beginning sc.  Finish off and weave in ends.
